Delete your account

You can delete your account in the app at any time, and it takes effect straight away. If you can’t use the app, write to us and we’ll delete it for you.

How to delete

1. Open fore:bitcoin on your phone, signed in, and make sure it’s online.
2. On the You tab, choose Delete account, at the foot.
3. Choose Delete my account.

The app signs you out and goes back to the sign-in screen, which says your account has been deleted. If it can’t reach our server, nothing is deleted, and it says so. Check your connection and try again.

What’s deleted

Straight away:

• your profile: your name, photo, home club, handicap, country and town
• your posts in the app
• how you sign in: your email address, Nostr public key or wallet key
• your sessions, so every phone you were signed in on is signed out
• your phones’ notification tokens
• the members you’ve blocked
• the invitation that brought you in, and any invitations you sent that nobody has taken up

Your games coming up

You leave them, and their players are told. A game you organised passes to the player who joined it first, or is cancelled if nobody else is in it.

Your groups

You leave them straight away, and each group’s chat says you’ve left. A group you organised passes to whoever has been in it longest. A group with nobody else in it is deleted, with its messages.

What stays

• Messages you sent stay in their conversations, groups, games and rooms, shown as from a deleted member, because they’re part of the other members’ conversations.
• Results you entered stay with the game, without your name, so the other players’ records stay whole.
• Reports you made, or that were made about you, stay for two years after we’ve dealt with them, so we can see if a problem comes back.
• Backups. Copies in our backups are gone within 30 days, as the backups expire.
• Posts you published to Nostr are public, and stay on the relays that hold them. We don’t run those relays. Your Nostr app can ask them to delete the posts, but each relay decides for itself.

If you can’t use the app

If you sign in by email, write to privacy@forebitcoin.com from that address and ask us to delete your account. We’ll reply to check the request came from you, then delete it within a month and tell you when it’s done.

If you sign in with Nostr or a Lightning wallet, your account is tied to a key rather than an address, so an email alone can’t show it’s yours. The quickest way is to install fore:bitcoin, sign in, and follow the steps above. If you can’t, write to privacy@forebitcoin.com with your Nostr public key (your npub), and we’ll agree a way for you to show it’s yours, such as signing a short message with your Nostr app.

Never send anyone your Nostr private key (your nsec) or your wallet’s recovery words. We’ll never ask for them.
